Almost all of the department is in the watershed of the Durance except for the extreme south-east (the cantons of Annot and Entrevaux) which are drained by the Var. La quasi-totalité du département se situe dans le bassin versant de la Durance, à l'exception de l'extrême sud-est (cantons d'Annot et Entrevaux) drainé par le Var.
